David Klein

David Klein

David Klein is one of Canada’s top class action lawyers. David’s practice is national in scope. He was plaintiffs’ counsel in the first class actions certified in British Columbia, Manitoba and Newfoundland & Labrador, and has been appointed by Ontario judges to represent the interests of British Columbians in several Ontario cases. Joëlle Berry

Joëlle Berry graduated from the University of British Columbia with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1997 and from Dalhousie University with a Bachelor of Law degree in 2000. She was called to the Bar of British Columbia in 2001.

Joëlle worked with the British Columbia Law Society for six years doing custodianship work.

Over the last two years, Joëlle has been working towards completing the requirements for admission to the British Columbia Mediator Roster Society. She also volunteers as a facilitator with the North Shore Restorative Justice Society.

Joëlle will be assisting Klein Lyons on specific class action matters.


Manjot Hallen

Manjot Hallen

Manjot Hallen was called to the British Columbia Bar in 2005. He graduated from Queen’s University with a Bachelor of Law in 2004 and received a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of British Columbia.

Manjot represents clients who are injured in motor vehicle and other accidents. He has appeared on behalf of clients at British Columbia Supreme Court and Provincial Court.

Manjot plays an active role in the professional, business and political life of the community. He is currently the Nominations Chair of the Liberal Party of Canada (BC) and the Vice-President of Vancouver’s civic Non-Partisan Association. Prior to practicing law, Manjot worked in government assisting several federal cabinet ministers.

Manjot is a member of the Canadian Bar Association and the Trial Lawyers Association of British Columbia. Manjot also speaks Punjabi.


Nicola Hartigan

Nicola Hartigan

Nicola is part of Klein Lyons' Class Action practice group. She completed
her law degree in 2004 at the University of British Columbia. As part of her
law program, she studied International Law at the University of Maastricht
in the Netherlands. Prior to law school, she obtained a Bachelor of Science
in Psychology at the University of Victoria.

Nicola is a co-chair of the Class Action subsection of British Columbia's
Canadian Bar Association. She is also a member of the Law Society of
British Columbia and the Trial Lawyers Association of British Columbia.


Doug Lennox

Doug Lennox

Doug Lennox graduated from the University of Toronto Law School in 1996 with a Bachelor of Law Degree. He was called to the bar in Ontario in 1998.

Mr. Lennox is a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada, the Canadian Bar Association, the Advocates' Society, the Ontario Trial Lawyer's Association and the American Trial Lawyers Association.

He is frequent writer and lecturer on class actions. He has fought for the rights of ordinary Canadians to have access to our courts, and successfully argued before the Ontario Court of Appeal the case of McIntyre v. Ontario (Attorney General), a legal challenge to Ontario's 200 year old ban on contingency fees, which resulted in the Ontario government finally changing this antiquated law.

Mr. Lennox represents plaintiffs in class and individuals actions including claims involving defective products, breaches of securities laws, and violations of consumer protection laws.


Michelle Ma

Michelle Ma

Michelle Ma graduated from Simon Fraser University in 1983 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree and in 1989 from the University of British Columbia with a Bachelor of Law Degree. She was called to the Bar in British Columbia in 1990.

Ms. Ma is a member of the Law Society of British Columbia, the Canadian Bar Association and the Trial Lawyers Association of British Columbia. Ms. Ma is the co- author of two articles on motor vehicle law titled "Requirement That Surveillance Tapes Be Disclosed" and "Calderbank Letters" published by The Continuing Legal Education Society of British Columbia.

Ms. Ma's practice is focused entirely on personal injury matters, aiding individuals whose lives have been adversely affected by automobile accidents.


Jason Murray

Gary Smith

Jason Murray is part of Klein Lyons’ class action practice. After a judicial clerkship with the Supreme Court of British Columbia, Jason was admitted to the British Columbia Bar in 2003. He is a graduate of Queen’s University at Kingston with a Bachelor of Laws and the University of British Columbia with a Bachelor of Arts.

Jason has appeared as counsel before Provincial and Supreme Courts of British Columbia and the British Columbia Utilities Commission and, on appeal, before the Court of Appeal for British Columbia. Prior to joining Klein Lyons, Jason practiced as a litigation associate with Canada’s largest law firm where he focussed on environmental and aboriginal law as well as other administrative, regulatory and public law matters. He has acted as counsel in regulatory hearings, significant aboriginal land claim matters, environmental prosecutions and civil disputes involving personal injury, environmental, construction and commercial disputes matters.

Jason has served in a number of volunteer positions within the Conservative Party of Canada and as Secretary of the Vancouver Civic Non-Partisan Association (NPA). He is currently a Director of the United Israel Appeal of Canada.

Jason is a member of the Law Society of British Columbia, the Canadian Bar Association and the Vancouver Bar Association.


Gary Smith

Gary Smith

Gary Smith graduated from the University of Toronto Law School with a Bachelor of Law in 1980 and from Osgoode Hall Law School with a Masters of Law in 1999. Mr. Smith also has a PhD in French and is fluently bilingual. He was called to the bar in Ontario in 1982.

He has published articles on mediation and law reform in various academic journals including the Osgoode Hall Law Review. He has taught courses and delivered papers on class actions, insurance and mediation.

Mr. Smith is Counsel to Klein Lyons in the fields of class actions, insurance and insolvency litigation.


Shauna Tucker

Shauna Tucker

Shauna Tucker graduated from the University of Ottawa in 1984 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree and from the University of Toronto Law School in 1990 with a Bachelor of Law Degree. She was called to the bar in British Columbia in 1991.

Ms. Tucker is a member of the Law Society of British Columbia and the Canadian Bar Association.

Ms. Tucker practices in the consumer class action group, acting for plaintiffs who have suffered physical or economic injury.


Chella Turnbull

Chella Turnbull

Chella Turnbull graduated from the University of Toronto Law School in 1987. Prior to that, her undergraduate studies focused on philosophy and psychology. Chella practised personal injury and insurance law for five years in Toronto, before relocating to Vancouver.

Chella is a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada, the Law Society of British Columbia, and the Trial Lawyers Association of British Columbia.


Paul Warnett

Paul Warnett

Paul Warnett was called to the bar of British Columbia in 2001. Paul is a trial lawyer who has represented clients at trial before the Provincial and Supreme Courts of British Columbia and on appeal before the Court of Appeal of British Columbia. Before coming to Klein Lyons, Paul represented both Plaintiffs and Defendants involved in motor vehicle accidents. He has extensive experience with catastrophic injuries including both brain and spinal injury claims. Paul has gained extensive insight into how ICBC evaluates claims and is pleased to utilize this knowledge to represent those injured in motor vehicle accidents.

Paul is a member of the Law Society of British Columbia, Trial Lawyers Association of British Columbia, Canadian Bar Association and the Vancouver Bar Association.” He has also lectured on trial preparation in Provincial Court for the Continuing Legal Education Society of BC.
