Position: Legal Secretary

Serve as a confidential Legal Secretary in a team-oriented environment supporting a busy personal injury lawyer. Prepare documents and correspondence requiring knowledge of legal terminology. Perform a wide variety of other secretarial and administrative duties.

Responsibilities & Accountabilities:

  • Establish, maintain, process and oversee paper and computer files, correspondence, databases, records, and/or other documents.
  • Perform a wide variety of word processing, revisions, and print letters and documents such as court pleadings.
  • Review documents for completeness, typographical and format errors.
  • Maintain calendar for lawyer
  • Manage documents through Legal Files Case management system
  • Provide follow up with appropriate departments to ensure compliance with agreements; request information from lawyers and other related issues; interact with law firms to answer routine questions and concerns.
  • Liaise with legal assistants, paralegals, case managers and other lawyers

Minimum Skills Required:

  • Graduation from a Legal Administrative Assistant (secretary) program.
  • Three+ years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Strong word processing and technical abilities
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task
  • Knowledge of a case management system is an asset
  • Must be accurate and detail oriented
  • Sound judgment and initiative required

Knowledge And Abilities Required:

  • Utilization of legal procedures knowledge
  • Preparation of legal documents and various other correspondence requiring knowledge of legal terminology;
  • Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare documents
  • Strong understanding of legal precedents and procedures
  • Maintenance of computer databases and management of confidential records
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and information.
  • Ability to analyze and solve problems
  • Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications
  • Ability to organize and perform tasks independently
  • Must be capable of interpreting instructions and preparing required documentation
  • High aptitude for detail and the ability to remain productive in a time-sensitive environment
  • Dedicated to providing quality service to clients and other stakeholders
