Introduction

Alberta Child Welfare Class Action

UPDATE: Class Action Certified against Alberta Child Welfare.

Please click here to read the Notice of Certification

This class action lawsuit has been filed against the child welfare branch of the Alberta Government. The lawsuit alleges that Child Welfare had a responsibility to pursue criminal injuries compensation and personal injury claims for children under its care but failed to do so.

The Plaintiffs were under the care of Child Welfare when they were minors. They are bringing this lawsuit on their own behalf and on behalf of persons who are or were in the custody of Child Welfare and whose legal rights were not protected.

The action was certified as a class proceeding by Mr. Justice Thomas on February 19, 2008. We are now moving the case toward trial.
