Diet Pills Class Action

Introduction

This class action was brought against Servier Canada Inc., and a group of related companies who manufactured and distributed the weight loss drugs Ponderal (fenfluramine) and Redux (dexfenfluramine).

The drugs have been linked to primary pulmonary hypertension (PPH) and heart valve disease.

The $44 million settlement, finalized in September 2004, will compensate those injured by the drugs in varying amounts depending on their age at diagnosis and the severity of the injury. The settlement covers persons resident anywhere in Canada other than Quebec. There is a separate settlement for residents of Quebec.
